Home Learning
The ability to learn independently is an important skill we want all our students to develop. Homework helps students develop independence, organisation, time management, and resilience. It also allows students to practice and consolidate the knowledge and skills taught in lessons.
For Key Stage 3 (year 7-9), students will complete weekly homework in Mathematics (Sparx Maths), English (Sparx Reader) and Science (Sparx Science). We are focusing on the core subjects to really strengthen students’ literacy, numeracy and critical thinking skills. This also gives students more time to read for pleasure each day and take part in regular physical activity outside school.
Students can log on to the Sparx platforms using their school log in details
Mathematics – https://sparxmaths.com/
English – https://sparxreader.com/
Science – https://sparxscience.com/
For Key Stage 4, students can expect approximately one homework task per fortnight in each subject. These tasks will focus on revision and strengthening subject knowledge through activities such as flashcards, mind maps, knowledge organiser revision and exam-style questions. More details of how to complete these tasks can be found in the KS4 homework booklet attachment.
We offer a range of support, including access to the library at lunchtime and after-school Homework Club, additional SEND support in the Student Centre, assistance with online platform logins, and laptop support for eligible Pupil Premium students.
Homework is an important part of the learning process. Students who do not complete homework may miss valuable opportunities to strengthen their understanding and make the progress they are capable of achieving. Where difficulties arise, we will work with students to provide support and guidance.
If you have concerns about a specific homework task, please contact your child’s class teacher. General homework queries should be directed to the relevant Head of Department or Head of Year. By working together, we can help all students develop strong study habits and achieve their full potential.
