USAF partnership continues with communications talk to students

Students at Newmarket Academy have been given a fascinating glimpse into the importance of communications within the USAF military.

Service personnel from RAF Mildenhall recently visited the secondary school to talk about their role in communications.

The visit was part of the International Youth Programme, run jointly by the academy and the USAF base, which aims to give local young people an insight into various careers and experiences.

Speaking of the latest event which was attended by students across all year groups, Newmarket Academy headteacher Martin Witter said: “We are so grateful to the USAF personnel for coming into our school to talk to students about their careers.

“They also discussed the importance of oracy, presentation skills and other life skills beyond the classroom.

“The partnership has been a great success and given our students so many valuable experiences and broadened their horizons on a global scale.”

A spokesperson for RAF Mildenhall said: “Our team is so grateful for the opportunity to engage with the Newmarket Academy students, where we can share our passion for what we do as Public Affairs members of the US Air Force.

“It is so rewarding to be part of events that allow us to inspire others to pursue their dreams, while also giving back to the community that supports us.”

Under the youth partnership programme, a number of joint initiatives have been run including a Women in Stem event and hosting an art exhibition at the National Racehorse Museum.

Joining together for various sporting events, learning more about the American airbase and a Thanksgiving event at RAF Mildenhall, where pupils joined together to cook parts of the traditional meal, have been other highlights.
