Safer Internet Day
Safer Internet Day 2018 #SID2018 will be celebrated globally on Tuesday 6th February with the slogan ‘Create, Connect and Share Respect: a better internet starts with you.’
At Newmarket Academy there will be a series of House assembles highlighting the importance of ‘respect’ when using the internet. Also all of our year 8’s will be taking part in a ‘challenge day’ on Wednesday 7th February highlighting how our students can stay safe online. They will be tackling such challenging topics as cyber bully, exploitation and sexting.
Neil Fisher our online safety lead said “this is the perfect opportunity for us to work with our students to help to create a better internet by being kind and respectful to others online. It’s about protecting their online reputations and those of others and seeking out positive opportunities to create, engage and share online.”
Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre the celebration sees hundreds of organisations get involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.
The day offers the opportunity to highlight positive uses of technology and to explore the role we all play in helping to create a better and safer online community. It calls upon students, parents, carers, teachers, and police to join together in helping to create a better internet. Get involved to play your part!
